Health and Safety Training
We have had quite a lot of inquiries regarding our training and have decided to clarify our course offerings in this edition of EHS Headlines. As a member of the WCB of BC's WorkSafe™ Education Network, REA offers all six WCB WorkSafe™ courses on a routine public schedule. We are also offering additional health and safety courses in Burnaby which are listed under Upcoming courses. Unfortunately, the WorkSafe™ courses cannot be delivered outside of BC. However, if the contents of the WorkSafe™ courses are of interest to you in Alberta, REA can customize training for your particular needs. In fact, all of our courses can be tailored somewhat to focus on your workplace requirements. Please be reminded that all courses can be taught at your facility at reduced registration rates. For more information on these health and safety courses or how REA can aid in your training requirements, visit our website at http://www.rea4ehs.com or call 1-888-rea-4-ehs.
Discount Policy
Effectively immediately, if you register three participants from one company all at once for the same course, you get to send one additional participant for free. Other discount options are available if you register 12 participants or more. Call 1-888-rea-4-ehs for more details.
BC Back Injuries
The WCB of BC has re-launched its Back Injury TV campaign. Back strain injuries account for one-quarter of all lost-time injuries suffered by BC workers every year. In response to these statistics, the WCB has developed the WorkSafe™ course entitled "Preventing and Investigating Musculoskeletal Injuries (MSI)". [A back strain can be considered an MSI]. This course aims at providing employers and workers with the knowledge and tools to prevent MSI and to conduct investigations into an MSI.
Alberta Due Diligence
AB Workplace Health and Safety has modified their information bulletin on Due Diligence (Revised Bulletin LI015). This bulletin has been revised to reflect the most recent changes to the Occupational Health and Safety Act and can be viewed at http://www3.gov.ab.ca/hre/whs/publications/pdf/li015.pdf. The REA course "Due Diligence for Managers, Supervisors, Officers and Directors" throughly explains the concept of due diligence and what actions you can take to ensure that you are duly diligent.

REA has developed many customized training courses in the past. Our previous clients include Transport Canada, Public Works and Government Services of Canada, WestCoast Energy (now Duke) and Environment Canada. By tailoring the training to the needs of the workplace, the content of the material will be much more relevant to the participants.

As a proud member of the WCB of BC’s WorkSafe™ Education Network, REA serves as a training provider of the WorkSafe™ courses. The six one-day WorkSafe™ courses are designed by WCB and are to be taught only in province of British Columbia. The WCB is kind enough to allow some flexibility and training providers can, at the request of clients/participants, make some minor modifications to the course content.

We at REA have developed our own set of health and safety training courses. These courses include Due Diligence for Managers / Supervisors / Officers and Directors, Contractor and Project Safety Management, Machine & Process Safeguarding and OHSAS 18001: OHS Management. The courses that we have produced can easily be modified to meet your organization’s particular needs. All courses that we offer can be taught in-house at your own facility at reduced registration rates.

If you believe that your workplace requires health and safety training but do not see a course listed in the EHS Headlines that meets your requirements, please contact us at 1-888-rea-4-ehs and we can discuss the possibility of a new health and safety course tailored just for your organization.

I was very impressed with the professionalism, quality and thoroughness of the course and related materials. The instructor was able to keep the course on a high energy level for both days (a difficult task considering we're dealing with government legislation). On behalf of Cara Operations Limited, I look forward to a continued business relationship with REA.

In the asbsence of an ISO standard to occupational health and safety management systems, progressive employers around the globe have been adopting British Standards Insitute OHSAS 18001 - The Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems Specifciation. In response, REA has developed two courses designed to help employers wishing to adopt this OHS Management System:

The 1-day Awareness Course is designed for participants who would like to find out if OHSAS is a management system that would benefit their workplace. The course provides an overview of OHSAS 18001 requirements - OHS management system elements, general requirements, OH policy, planning, implementation and operation, checking and corrective action, and management review - and by the end of the course understand the intent, content, and applicability of this management system.

The 3-day Implementation Course will provide those participants who have decided to implement OHSAS 18001 the tools and knowledge to effectively assess / develop / consolidate their existing management system to conform with OHSAS 18001. In addition to covering the essentials of the specification, participants will understand practical ways of integrating OHSAS 18001 with Canadian Occupational Health and Safety statutory and regulatory requirements, and the relationship between OHSAS 18001, ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 is also covered.
